HOW TO DISTINE A GOOD WINE?
The shelves of alcoholic beverages in supermarkets are full of diversity, causing the simple consumer to be slightly confused.
HOW TO DISTINE A GOOD WINE?
Nothing but types of wine (red, white, pink), degrees and prices are not clear. After several minutes of “viewing” the labels, we choose either the most beautiful or, being guided, by price. Of course, there are not rare cases of “hit”, and the selected wine will please with excellent taste. But, unfortunately, this is not always the case. The most annoying situations are when the wine is selected for a responsible event, and instead of “the drink of the gods” you get an acidic fake powder. Reading this article will not make you a qualified sommelier, but will tell you how to distinguish good wine from bad wine, and high-quality from cheap fake.
Stage 1. Appearance.
We start with a label inspection. The quality of the print image of a good wine is always at a high level: there can be no smudges, stains, blurred letters. The label is clearly centered, the edges are smooth, there are no traces of glue (look at the bottle at the light). If any of the criteria is corrupted, it is better to set aside this “copy”.
What information we look for on the label: the country of manufacture, the name of the plant, the bottled beverage, the composition (alcohol, sugar, etc.), date of manufacture. By the way, the date of the spill should be specified separately, and not in the general stream.
Pay special attention to the country of production. The leaders of European winemaking are still Italy, France and Spain: a good climate for winemaking, strict observance of laws, centuries-old traditions. Choosing a wine from one of these countries, just can not go wrong. The wines of the New World (South Africa, Chile, Argentina) are inferior in complexity to the bouquets of winemakers, but the quality is always high and the price is much lower.
Pay attention to the vessel. Most manufacturers, trying to protect their customers from buying fakes, use a logo. This can be a curved neck of the bottle, some convex signs on the glass, which are quite difficult to fake.
The first stage has been successfully completed, we are going home to evaluate the results.
Stage 2 Content analysis.
Uncorking the bottle, pay attention to the cork. Cheap wines are clogged with low-grade (glued) corks that simply crumble under the influence of a corkscrew. Pour wine into a glass, fill only one third, and shake the drink, inhale the aroma (weak and unpleasant – a sure sign of poor quality) and evaluate the color saturation. What should be alerted: too pale colors for reds and rosé wines and dark colors for whites, as well as excessive turbidity. Do not throw away the wine, if after tasting your front teeth are slightly stained. This is a sign of the naturalness of the product, grape skins are one of the strongest dyes. Take a sip. Of course, you will hardly be able to determine on which bank the grapes that gave this wine were growing, but to identify the low grade will definitely work. A good drink will be a real delight for the receptors: no excess acid, taste of seasonings with glutomata, vinegar and unpleasant sensations in the stomach.
Choosing a drink, do not forget about the point of sale. You should make a purchase either in specialized boutiques, online stores or large supermarkets, where a qualified specialist will come to your aid.
